Year 1 are learning about toys for their History topic this half term. We looked at some toys from the past and explored how children played with them. The children enjoyed trying to catch the ball in the cup and were very impressed with the zoetrope.
Then the History Man came to school and brough lots of toys for us to look at. We made a timeline from Ancient Egypt to now and order the toys by looking at the materials they were made from and how decorated they were. We were amazed to see dolls and animal toys from 5000 years ago!
We then got a chance to play with all the toys and see of we could work out how old some extra ones were. Lots of children enjoyed some of the modern, more familiar toys but we also really enjoyed playing with some of the older toys such as the wind-up train set and the Whee-lo!
Afterwards we got to enjoy another form of entertainment for children in the past - a Punch and Judy show. Mr Punch was his usual naughty self and the children loved the stinky baby and the slapstick humour.
