Yesterday brought a frosty start in our school garden!

The first job of the morning was looking after our feathered friends. The garden was quiet and frosty, so we began by refilling the bird feeders to welcome our morning visitors. We also put seed and mealworms out on the log — our resident robin’s favourite spot for a breakfast treat.

Later on, our Gardening Club children wrapped up warm and headed back out to harvest some of our winter vegetables, including turnips, carrots, and onions. We still have leeks, potatoes, and sprouts to gather — perfect for making a comforting vegetable soup on a cold day.

It was also time to harvest our long-awaited birdhouse gourd, which we’ve been nurturing with care for quite some time! We’ve brought it inside to dry and cure over the next few months until the shell is hard, ready to be transformed into our very own eco-friendly birdhouse!

A lovely reminder that even in the cold, our school garden keeps on giving!
