In PSHE this week, Year 5 became first-aiders. They have been learning all about emergency procedures and how to react to medical emergencies.
Last week, children learnt about DRs ABCs. This is an acronym to help support children in how to respond if they were to come across someone who was collapsed. Danger, Response, Shout, Airway, Breathing, Circulation.
Then, children watched a video showing a young girl following these steps and remaining calm. Miss Gallagher then demonstrated to Year 5 how to safely and efficiently put someone into the recovery position. Children watched carefully making sure to follow the steps in the correct order before having a go themselves in small groups.
Year 5 were incredibly sensible and took the lesson really seriously. Hopefully, they will never need to put anyone in the recovery position but they have been equipped now with a potentially life-saving skill. Well done Year 5- we may have some future paramedics in amongst you!
