Exploring Movement and Emotions in PE!

Our EYFS children have had a fantastic time in PE today! They’ve been busy developing their physical skills while also having lots of fun exploring movement, emotions, and space.

Through a variety of lively games, the children practised moving around the hall while showing different emotions — from happy and excited to grumpy and funny! They especially loved freezing in imaginative poses that matched how they were feeling. These activities not only got everyone moving, but also helped them negotiate space safely and with increasing confidence.

We also introduced balancing challenges using spot markers. The children showed great listening and coordination skills as they balanced on one leg, or carefully placed different body parts on the markers — trying not to wobble!

All of these activities support key elements of the Physical Development Early Learning Goals, particularly:

  • Gross Motor Skills: Developing strength, balance, and coordination. Negotiating space safely.

  • Managing Self: Learning how to move safely and follow instructions in a group setting.
