Our children have been busy helping to get the hedgehog houses ready! They filled each home with dust-extracted barley straw, which is softer than traditional straw and doesn’t go mouldy like hay. Once ready, the houses were carefully placed around our school garden and forest school area.

These homes will provide a safe space for hibernation and breeding, supporting hedgehogs in our local area. With hedgehog populations in the UK having significantly declined, these houses will play an important role in supporting biodiversity in our school garden.

A huge thank you again to the generosity of Trawden Man Shed and John, who kindly created these fantastic hedgehog houses for us!

A Reminder for Bonfire Night - Just before lighting, always check bonfires for hedgehogs, ideally moving the entire pile and then only light from one side.
