This week, our Year 4 children proudly finished their DT unit on pasta making. Over the half term, they have been busy researching, planning and learning the skills needed to create a delicious pasta dish, linking to our topic on Italy.

For their final lesson, the classroom turned into a kitchen as every child took on an important role in preparing the meal from start to finish. To begin, all pupils carefully chopped their own tomatoes using the bridge technique. They then worked as a team, taking on a variety of jobs including chopping onions, tearing fresh basil, grating cheese, adding pasta, draining it, mixing ingredients and stirring the sauce.

It was fantastic to see everyone fully involved, working safely and supporting one another to create their finished dish. There was certainly a lot of teamwork… although the washing up was kindly left to Mr Loynds, Miss Sanderson and Mrs Waters!

Next, the children will evaluate their meals. Some were already keen for seconds, while others reflected thoughtfully, suggesting improvements such as chopping the tomatoes into smaller pieces.

A brilliant end to a hands-on and tasty DT unit!
